This website, marriedtoabedouin.com, is run by Marguerite van Geldermalsen to share her memoir Married to a Bedouin. This page explains what information is collected when you visit the site or use the contact form, and what happens to it.
The contact form
When you send a message through the contact form, we receive your name, your email address and your message. These are sent by email to Marguerite so she can read and reply to you. They are not stored on the website itself.
Messages are kept in our email account (hosted by Google Workspace) for as long as they are useful for the conversation. We use your details only to reply to you. We never sell them, share them for marketing, or add you to a mailing list.
Visiting the site
There are no analytics, advertising or tracking tools on this site, and we do not build profiles of visitors.
Like almost every website, the site’s servers record basic technical information about each visit, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is done automatically by our hosting providers and is used only to keep the site running and secure.
Cookies
The site does not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Our web host may set a single short-lived technical cookie when you use the contact form, to help tell real visitors from automated spam. It contains no personal information.
Services we rely on
- Bluehost hosts the website and sends contact form messages.
- Cloudflare delivers the site and protects it from attacks; all visits pass through its network.
- Google Workspace provides our email, where contact form messages are received.
Each of these companies processes data under its own privacy policy. Links to Amazon and Goodreads take you to those sites, which have their own privacy policies; nothing is shared with them until you click.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time what information we hold about you from the contact form, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Just send a request through the contact form and we will respond as soon as we can.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
